Treatment Issue Addressed: Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

Posttraumatic Stress Disorder develops if the Acute Stress Disorder continues into the fifth week. The traumatic event is now beginning to take a life of its own, and the person may feel they have no future. A lot of energy is being used attempting to avoid triggers (reminders of the trauma). Some individuals manage to function around the trauma feelings, by curtailing their activities, but part of themselves remains emotionally damaged. They are not living their usual life of vitality and wholeness.
